I’d welcome something with a better camera and more memory than 16 GB, but I can’t really say a bad word about my Nexus 4. It’s served me well so far and I wouldn’t mind keeping it for a bit longer if it wasn’t for the battery. At the moment it uses about 10-15% per 5 minutes of internet browsing and won’t last 24 hrs on standby. That’s unacceptable.
I was thinking of getting the Nexus 5X, but I kinda wish it had more RAM. 2 GB has been the standard for a while now, and as I tend to keep phones for a few years I fear it may fall behind the curve soon.
Are there any other phones that offer good bang for the buck?

My Nexus 4 always had meh battery life, and also randomly rebooted from time to time. I decided to ditch it when I could no longer commute from New Jersey to New York and back on one charge.
I got a OnePlus One. It’s bigger than I would like, but good price and features. From the reviews of the Two, it seems like it’s not quite as good a deal, but still a good option.
If I were buying right now, I would seriously consider the iPhone SE. I would definitely want a smaller phone again. I have a prepaid plan, so I buy the phones outright.

I hate huge phones. Even the Nexus 4 is too big for my liking, but anything smaller is very much of the budget phone variety.

They’re twice the price of a 5X.

I had a 5x for a while after downsizing from a 6, but it started getting kinda laggy and twitchy. I gave up hopes of a fast, small phone and got the 6p. It's smaller than the 6, and has been awesome fwiw

I’m using a Nexus 5X myself. Honestly, my only complaints are battery life (it’s on par with a lightly used iPhone) and how it manages RAM. 2GB of RAM actually is fine for a phone, but standard Android doesn’t seem to manage it too well.
And that’s why I flashed a new ROM to my Nexus. Cyanogenmod 13. Along with the crazy awesome customization, CM13 manages battery and RAM so freaking better than standard Android. That said, flashing Cyanogenmod will void the warranty (some newer Android phones make an internal “note" if you’ve flashed it, so even if you revert to stock, your warranty is still dead) and it’s slightly buggy, so I don’t recommend it for a standard phone user.
I DO recommend the Nexus 6P. :)

Try a new battery. 10 bux.

My wife is still rocking a Galaxy S3. Replaced the battery not too long ago.
I mean if you want to upgrade to something else with more bells and whistles, go for it, but if you’re interested in keeping what you have for a little longer, I think the 10 dollars is a fair trade off.

The iPhone SE (iPhone 6S guts in an iPhone 5S body) is actually at most, $100 more than the 5X. :)

Moto X (2014) The screen is slightly too large for my tastes but only just. I got one after my Moto X 2013 broke and this phone is better in almost every way, which is saying something. It’s very solid, has taken a few drops without a case, it feels incredibly sturdy, the battery lasts me a whole day and it is as close to stock android as you’ll get outside of a Nexus phone.
EDIT: Just thinking about it, my wife has a Sony Xperia Z3 compact. That is also a very solid phone, she drops it all the time and it only has a very basic/cheap plastic shell case protecting it. It’s super speedy, has extremely good battery life and is waterproof (for a few months, the seals wear out over time)

What? 5x is $379, SE is $399.
(edit: I had 5x at $379 because the was the list, but I see it on Amazon for $337. Still not twice the price though and a good value for the specs the iPhone has.)

I am never on the cutting edge of phone technology, so I usually buy the previous “best” model. I’m using an Xperia Z3+ currently and I love it. The battery is great and the speed is awesome, although just about anything would be fast compared to what it replaced.
Plus, it’s waterproof!

A 32 GB 5X is around 1400 z here, while a 64 GB (no 32 GB model) iPhone SE is 2649 z. :/

Coming from a Nexus 4 and a Galaxy J, switching to the Nexus 5x was great for me battery wise. At the end of the day, I’m usually at 50%, sometimes down to 30% if I used my phone “heavily”... As far as speed goes, no problem whatsoever for now. Photo camera is a GREAT step up from the Nexus 4 also... This pic for exemple was taken with my 5X
Other than that, no problem with it at all and as I said, very happy! :)

Still on a GS3 here. I change batteries a few times a year, $10 a pop. Aside from a couple of cracks on the screen, this phone is still doing great 3 years on. I don’t see a need for a newer phone when this one still does its job well.

Well... that’s what you get for living in Poland. Just kidding. I don’t know what to tell you then. I don’t know the prices over there.
You should probably throw that in your post because prices are substantially different in the U.S. apparently.

Flashing Cyanogenmod won’t void your warranty on Nexus phones... How do you find Cyanogen 13? I’ve seen that they released the first stable-ish version but haven’t gotten round to trying it out yet... No problem overall? No bugs camera wise for exemple?

Is it just your country or the Europe region? If it’s just your country I’d hop over to Lithuania or Germany.

Seems to be Europe in general. An SE (64 GB) is 589 EUR in Germany which makes almost no difference.
Lithuania doesn’t get the SE at all.

My LG G3 has been awesome for a year and a half now. For the first time ever, my upgrade in august may not get used on time, I have no complaints about it for once.
Comes with 32gb and has a memory card slot for upgrades, and if you get the 32gb model comes with 3gb of RAM.
13mp camera as well.

Dzien dobry! Switched from a Nexus 4 I’d been running since launch (Dec 2012) to a Nexus 5x this past November. Same feelings as you regarding size; if I could have purchased Nexus 6P hardware in a 5x sized phone, I would have, but the 6P is just too big. Even still, the 5x is a substantial step up in size from the 4. Overall, I’ve been happy with the 5x, though. Battery life is amazing, I’ve had no stability/lag/RAM issues at all, the camera is great (used every day at work in varying lighting environments), and the rapid charging has proved itself more useful than I’d imagined.
On a somewhat unrelated note, I was running an Android phone when I was in Poland six years ago. All my friends thought it was a novelty, and swore by Nokia/Symbian. Still the case, or have Apple/Google won the smartphone war there, too?

Symbian got a foothold in very early, but they got crushed by Android around the time version 2.1 came about. Apple are doing PK, but they’re very expensive.

Ah, that’s correct! Whew. I know LG and a few others are beginning to put chips in the phones that will read if a phone has been flashed, but it looks like Google doesn’t care about that when it comes to warranty claims.
Anyway, with CM13. Uh, there are a few “minor” issues (minor to me, I guess lol).
The biggest thing is encryption. CM13 still has forced encryption on the 5X...So, if you’re going to use TWRP for Recovery, please back up the phone before you first run CM13...because once you run the phone for the “first” time, TWRP locks up. You can still update the phone through ADB or restore from a saved backup, but accessing the phone’s filesystem through Recovery is not yet possible.
The camera is a little buggy, sometimes it doesn’t want to open with a double power button click, sometimes it does. Regardless, it’s a tiny bug that doesn’t bother me as I can still access the camera via home screen icon. I haven’t noticed any change in picture quality either.
Also, no overclocking yet, not a big deal to me, but I was kinda wanting to try it out for shifts and giggles.
My GPS also didn’t work the first time I installed CM13. I fixed that with a fresh install that also included the pico version of the Google apps package on the Cyanogenmod site.

My phone is rooted on stock rom and I already use TWRP as a recovery. Installing Cynaogenmod would litteraly take me 5 minutes ;)
Thx for update anyway, I’ll wait for the next milestone or maybe a RC... We’ll see. I dont want to deal with buggy releases with this phone :)

I’ve got a G3. Not the latest thing, but it’s got 3gb of RAM and can be had super cheap. The G5 is almost out, but both the 4 and 5 are fairly incremental improvements. Expandable space, removable battery :)
The battery isn’t amazing, depending on how you use it, but I have 2.
